CNN made a truly sick display by having a Gold Star family on their program. The primary purpose was to demonstrate President Trump’s callous attitude towards the military, but it backfired. The family wasn’t taking the bait. Instead, they thanked President Trump.
“New Day” host Alisyn Camerota spoke to Shiela and Calvin Murphy. Their son, Army Spc. Etienne Murphy, perished in Syria on May 26. As you see in the interview, taking advantage of a grieving family is far worse than Trump not writing a letter.
Camerota pressed Mrs. Murphy about the president not calling or writing a letter after her son’s death.
No, I haven’t but it’s OK. It doesn’t matter if I hear from the White House or no because it’s not really … about a call or letter.
Murphy asked for others to simply remember her son and other Gold Star families. Tearfully, she said the worst thing she’s ever been called is a Gold Star mom.
Camerota refused to let this derail her agenda. “I know that you, you wrote a letter to the White House, I think,” Camerota inquired. “What did you want the president to know about your son?”
Murphy still would not give in to the questioning.
I just wanted him to not forget my son. And I actually thank President Trump for ordering the air strike in Syria, but it wasn’t enough to save my child. I have no hard feelings towards anyone because it’s not about me, it’s about my child and all the other countless fallen heroes…I don’t want it to be about me or a letter. I want it to be about my child and what he stood for, and what they are fighting for over there right now as I speak.
Eventually, Camerota gave up. What we are left with is watching a grieving mother trying to take things day by day.
Rest in peace, Specialist Etienne Murphy.
