BOMBSHELL: NFL Social Justice Settlement Plans to Take Money From Breast Cancer Charity and Veterans Funds

In an interview with Slate, San Francisco 49er Eric Reid delivered some pretty astounding news.  The NFL intends to use money slated for breast cancer charities and the “Salute to Service” veterans fund inappropriately.  They have slated to use the money for an $89 million “social justice” program.

The NFL made the announcement last week.  It’s an effort to “settle” with the players that have all kneeled down this year during the national anthem.  The movement is led by second-string quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Philadelphia Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins, and retired NFLer Anquan Boldin.

However, the announcement didn’t specify where exactly the money would come from.  The NFL kept details quite sparse, only saying that organizations could allocate their funds to “projects dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement/community relations and education.”

Reid was the one to drop the bombshell – the “funds” are being stolen from charities.

From Reid’s interview:

In the discussion that we had, Malcolm [Jenkins] conveyed to us — based on discussions that he had with the NFL — that the money would come from funds that are already allocated to breast cancer awareness and Salute to Service.  So it would really be no skin off the owners’ backs: They would just move the money from those programs to this one.

Reid protested the national anthem, but even he thought this was a new low.  He and several players opted out of the bargain.  They never wanted the protest to be anti-military, and pulling funds from their charity does just that.

According to Reid, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is the brains behind the operation.  Goodell wanted to bring the protests to an end by whatever means necessary.  Since the protests began, NFL viewership has plummeted.  However, he didn’t want to financially ding NFL owners in the process.

The NFL has truly hit a new low when I side with a national anthem protester.
