Nancy Pelosi has become extremely livid after President Trump’s administration targeted illegal immigration in California.
This week, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) deportation officers conducted targeted immigration enforcement operations in San Francisco, California. Their goal is to arrest those who have violated the United States immigration laws. Just since Sunday, ICE deportation officers already arrested over 150 illegals who have violated federal U.S. immigration laws.
The new operation in California is a plan to continue ICE’s efforts to organize enforcement against public safety threats. In a similar operation this month in LA, California, over 88% of the immigrants arrested by ICE had been convicted criminals. Nancy Pelosi needs to look at the numbers and the crimes convicted by these immigrants. Instead she is throwing a hissy fit and has released a statement condemning the entire project calling it “abuse of law enforcement power.”
On Wednesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) released a statement condemning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for arresting “law-abiding” and “patriotic” illegal immigrants after they made a recent sweep in northern California.
“The Trump Administration’s raids were a shocking abuse of law enforcement power,” she said. “Yet again, the White House has reached into our communities to indiscriminately detain scores of hard-working, law-abiding immigrants.”
Pelosi accused ICE of trying to terrorize the immigrant community:
Fully half of those swept up in the ICE raids have no criminal record. This raid was intended solely to terrorize innocent immigrant families and instill fear in the hearts of our communities – not to keep Americans safe. Parents will now be torn from their children, and spouses ripped away from their loved ones.
The Administration continues to brazenly target the cities that refuse to bow to its blatantly bigoted anti-immigrant and mass deportation agenda. The people of the San Francisco Bay Area will continue to oppose these cowardly attacks, and we will remain open to the patriotic immigrants who are the constant reinvigoration of America.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, ICE said those who had criminal convictions included “assault/battery, crimes against children, weapons charges and DUI”:
Since Sunday, ICE deportation officers have arrested more than 150 individuals who are in violation of federal U.S. immigration laws, working on leads developed by the local field office in conjunction with the National Criminal Analysis and Targeting center (NCATC). About half of the individuals arrested also have criminal convictions in addition to their immigration violations, including convictions for assault/battery, crimes against children, weapons charges and DUI.
“This operation is a continuation of ICE’s efforts to prioritize enforcement against public safety threats,” they added.
