Rahm Emanuel’s Approval Ratings Jumped 25% Without Lifting a Finger – Here’s Why

At the expense of his city, Rahm Emanuel had a great year opposing President Donald Trump.

Emanuel’s approval ratings rose despite shootings, sky-high taxes, and other crime.  And his only credit is currying favor with the left by vocally opposing Trump.  In fact, he’s one of the figureheads of the “anti-Trump” movement.

This year, Emanuel called Chicago a “Trump-free” zone – something directly in opposition to federal laws.  He won a legal battle opposing the White House in their efforts to cut funding to sanctuary cities.  Then, he opposed Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris Agreement by coming out in strong support for climate change.

Rahm knew exactly what he was doing.  Earlier this year, his approval ratings were around 25%.  At the end of this year, they are now just around 50%.  That’s quite a massive jump for a mayor that hasn’t done much except opposing Trump.

Local residents don’t buy into Emanuel’s new position as liberal darling.  The shooting statistics of Chicago speak for themselves.

Undocumented Immigrants

Although he promotes himself as a champion of undocumented immigrants and blue-collar families, his policies directly oppose them.  Under his administration, funds have been channeled to wealthy developers.  The very funds intended for Chicago’s poorest and most devastated neighborhoods.  The Chicago Reader also noted he’s slashed public services and jobs.

Despite his statements, Chicago is actually far from a sanctuary city.  The city’s much-praised laws aimed at helping undocumented immigrants actually allow police to cooperate with immigration officials if a person is facing charges or considered to be a gang member.

Crime

Chicago has been one of the leaders of crime statistics for a long time, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.  Since 2015, the city has seen a 60% jump in killings.  No wonder citizens are leaving in droves.

Emanuel’s claims of “Trump-free zone” seem to be in place only when it’s convenient.  After the 2014 shooting of Laquan McDonald, Obama’s DOJ accused Chicago police officers of being poorly trained, undisciplined, and inadequately supervised.

Emanuel signed a consent agreement appointing a federal monitor that specialized in implementing police reforms.  Attorney General Jeff Sessions opposed the agreement, but Emanuel worked in secret with the DOJ for the federal agreement.

Such actions by any other politician would be career-ending.  However, Emanuel will run for his third term in 2019.  At the moment, it looks like he will probably win.  I’m sure he will clamor about Trump his entire campaign.
